Albion Press
The Albion Press I am looking at is a good size for my small engravings. It is not set up as a working press so I have to buy it "as it is". Please look at the photos and descriptions below and see if any "alarm bells" ring. The first picture shows the size of the press against my six foot frame.
The press looks in reasonable order. Notice that the straps are missing. The bed does slide in and out fairly easily. I think I may need to replace the handle with a "crank" type to make the operation easier. What do the missing straps attach to? Please look for whatever that is on the other photos.
The handle seemed to move both ways. It should pull to the left here but seemes to move more easily when pushed away towads the right. The "drop" of the platen seems to be very small. It is an "Improved Albion Press.
The next photo shows the rail that the bed moves on. Notice the gaps in both rails about three quarters across. They look planned but, at the back of my mind, I worry that they are cracks. Do you recognise these gaps?
Here is a small repair to be made - to the screw that holds the tympan in place.
The Tympan and Frisket do not hinge, but seem to clip together. I would prefer a hinge - is this a usual situation with smaller Albions?
More pics. What do you think?
Thanks very much for looking. If you have any comments. please email me.
