The Gardens Series: Giverny
Monet's Gardeners
-
This is an important engraving for me. I was impressed by
the hard work that the gardeners put into the recreation
of Monet's garden at Giverny. Their labours are generally
ignored and I started to include them in sketches, thinking
that I could celebrate their work with an engraving.
The thinking lasted four years, and involved two visits
to the garden. After lots of sketches, I arrived at a
composition that I liked and started the actual process
of engraving the block, which took about two weeks.
